Renaissance of a downhill legend.
Already in the 1990s, Wurbauerkogel was a popular target for bikers who battled it out at spectacular downhill races on this mountain. This summer, a new chapter of mountain bike history will be added to the chronicles of Windischgarsten: From the 24th of June onwards, gravity fans can choose from a broad and challenging range of lines. The new trails of the Bikepark Wurbauerkogel will provide beginners as well as more experienced riders with a fair share of adrenaline on three different levels of difficulty – on top of all the stunning panorama of the Kalkalpen National Park.
Recently, you could hear a lot of hammering and noisy machine sounds coming out of the forest at Wurbauerkogel. If you’re now thinking that we’re dealing with regular wood work here, you are simply wrong: In fact, the new Bikepark Wurbauerkogel is currently being built up. With this latest attraction, the range of sport activities at the holiday region Pyhrn-Priel will be even broader and the first part of the Pyhrn-Priel TRAILOGY will be accomplished. Returning to its roots, the Wurbauerkogel will refresh his legendary image among passionate racers who cherished this terrain for its perfect downhill conditions already back in the 1990s. After the official opening on June 24, 2016, all gravity fans can now get their kick on the new trails here. On the opening day, all bikers can use the chair lift for free and the lift will run until 9pm. At the subsequent “Biker-Sonnwend” midsummer celebration taking place at the mountain restaurant, a public bonfire and live music will round off the first day at the Bikepark Wurbauerkogel.
There are three different levels of difficulty to choose from. If you’re new to the scene and want to collect your first downhill experiences, then you should wheel over to the “Blue Lollipop” trail. On this 1.3 kilometer long path, banked curves and rollers will ensure a great deal of flow for all bikers. Due to the smooth adaption to the natural subsoil and the weatherproof surfacing of the trail, a safe descend to the valley is guaranteed. On the two trails “Big Red” and “Red Root Carpet” some exciting bikepark features are waiting for all advanced riders. Along the Big Red trail, numerous tables, steps and especially the impressive wallride or the northshore drop will put your nerves and skills to a test. If you’d rather go for a downhill ride bearing naturally steep and tricky passages, you should check out the “Black Widow” trail, but be aware, this trail is for experts only as you will be facing demanding fields of tree roots and lots of stony arrays.
