We invite you!

What an area the Almenland Nature Park is! Lush green meadows and dark green forests over gentle mountain pastures. Every now and then, there are spots of red: the roofs of the farmhouses. And in the centre, embedded in a vast high plateau, there is the dark blue Teichalm Lake with the colourful pedalos. Light brown and dark brown dots all around: ALMO® steers which provide delicate beef and horses which are allowed to enjoy the summer in the mountain pastures.

Located just 50 km to the north of Graz and in the heart of Styria, the Almenland has been awarded the title “nature park” and is an unrivalled holiday paradise for the whole family.

Experiencing the nature park – the nature park partner establishments
The Almenland covering Teichalm and Sommeralm is the youngest nature park in Styria. This nature region is characterised by mountain pastures, forests, gorges and ravines. The Almenland Nature Park is, however, also the home of species of plants which only occur here. Thus, the wealth of native orchids is unique.
Our ambassadors are the nature park partner establishments which identify with the philosophy of the nature parks and make a particular effort to tell their guests about the nature park.

The greatest treasures of the Almenland...
...are our nature park jewels, sites of natural beauty or places of power which have developed through centuries of interaction between people and nature!
These jewels demonstrate the beauty and uniqueness of the nature park. Our jewels, two gorges, a raised bog and an orchid meadow, are not only worth seeing, but also reach and impress the visitors on all levels.

Hiking with a view and refreshment stops
Over the mountain pastures or through the gorges: with its 125 continuous mountain pastures, the Almenland Nature Park is unique in Europe and a fantastic hiking region. In addition to the mountain pastures, the spectacular Bärenschutz Gorge and the sheltered Raab Gorge lend themselves to hiking.
Along the hiking trails, there are good opportunities to stop for refreshments –
for a hearty mountaineer’s breakfast or for fresh Raab trout under shady trees. And if you have had a good hike, you have earned a steak at one of the ALMO Genusswirte (restaurants certified under the “Genuss Region Österreich” initiative). All our restaurants will spoil you with regional specialities and warm hospitality.

Tasting the nature park
With a lot of care and expertise, our farmers produce regional delicacies on their farms. Raw materials which are provided by nature are gently processed to make high-quality foodstuffs and luxuries.
Cheese, meat, bread, pasta, honey, vegetables, herbs, chocolates and fine brandies – fresh from the garden of Austria – are brought to the table by our landlords! Our cooking would be much poorer without the specialities from our farmers!
Many producers invite you onto their farms and explain about the origin and production of their food in a guided tour.

For anyone who wants to take the taste of the nature park home with them, the farm shops are available for purchasing souvenirs.

The ALMO Genusswirte
The ALMO Genusswirte (restaurants certified under the “Genuss Region Österreich” initiative) form the heart of our food service sector – from ALMO beef in the cooking to the quality of the products, through to the ambience in the restaurant! And of course there are the landlords themselves, along with their employees, who warmly welcome the guests.
The local steer meat from the nature park has a special quality and is sold as far as Germany under the ALMO brand. A partnership going back many years connects the ALMO Genusswirte to the company Schirnhofer which processes the beef and delivers it through the company Kröswang.

Exercise and experiences
Happiness in life lies in variety – the happiness of our guests lies in the numerous excursion possibilities. There is a wide range of excursions on offer for everyone who wants to get to know the land and people better or who would like to really have fun:
speed down to the valley on the summer toboggan run, climb high up into the treetops or splash around in the bathing lake.
You can explore the “underworld” in a cave tour, the open air museum invites you to take a walk through the centuries, and our producers of specialities allow you to look over their shoulders as they work. Graz, with its large cultural programme, is also not far away. Variety is guaranteed!

A gift for our guests
From 1st March to 31st October, you can discover the sights of East Styria and the Capital of Culture Graz with the GenussCard!

How does it work?
You spent the night at a Card partner establishment in the Almenland Nature Park and the GenussCard will be included in the price from the first night.
The card allows free access to more than 120 excursion destinations; you can also visit one of 4 thermal baths.
All the GenussCard excursion destinations can be visited once per stay. Exceptions: natural bathing lakes, open air and indoor pools. Entry to the thermal baths and access to some of the larger excursion destinations are linked to a minimum stay of 3 nights.

Mountain pasture freshness and garden romanticism
When the heat of the summer lies over the towns, overtaxing the sweat pores of the inhabitants and paralysing any activity – then it is time for summer holidays with a mountain pasture freshness in the Almenland Nature Park! Here, there is always a gentle breeze blowing over the verdant mountain pastures, and the mountain streams provide the necessary freshness with their clear water. And the flowers are abundant everywhere – in the meadows, in the mountain pastures and in the villages.
Around this time, the show gardens are also beautiful. Our herb farmers like to lead you through their fragrant beds and explain the correct way to handle the medicinal herbs so that they can reveal their full power.

Cycling in the mountain pastures – with complete comfort!
For anyone who associates mountain biking with a lot of sweat, we offer electric bicycles for relaxed cycling over the hills and mountain pastures. High-quality e-bikes are hired to pleasure cyclists in a number of places.
Experience enchanting mountain pasture scenery, romantic river courses and idyllic localities comfortably from your saddle. Leave your car behind and cycle when you’re going hiking, playing golf or going shopping; visit a pub or an excursion destination on your way. We recommend our cycle routes for everyone who is undecided – a wonderful day of cycling!

The Almenland Golf Club – a showpiece
Welcome to the cosiest golf club in Austria! At the 18 hole Almenland golf course, the focus is on fun whilst playing golf, the enjoyment of good company and the love of nature.
The golf course is characterised by a beautiful landscape, a magnificent panorama and a breathtaking design. The English golf course design Michael Pinner enthuses: “In truth, nature has already defined this unforgettable place!”
As a guest at our golf partners, you can enjoy discounted green fees.

Folk music and theatrical tradition
Mountain pastures and folk music – a completely logical combination for most people. In the Almenland Nature Park, folk music in the original sense is still very much alive. Mountain hut singers regularly meet here and invite you to sing along. More or less experienced harmonica players come together at a musicians’ get-together and the young people demonstrate their skills in music, singing and dancing in folk societies.
The entire programme is brought together in the “Strasse der Musik” (Road of Music) project.
In the summer months, in particular, theatre lovers are very well served. The Brandlucken Haub’n Theater primarily performs Austrian comedy classics and is known far beyond the country.

Christmas in the Nature Park
When the first candle on the Advent wreath is lit and the year is approaching its end, the most atmospheric time at the Almenland Nature Park begins. Here too, Advent is a time for reflection and preparation for the Christmas season.

The Advent customs start with the Krampus parades. Idyllic Christmas markets, church concerts, processions of light and the tower music before the midnight mass are just as much a part of the traditional Advent events as the life-size nativity scenes in the individual towns and villages.

Winter fun for young and old
Our nice small winter sports area impresses with its charm, its manageable size and its low prices and is thus perfect for families. The lifts and magic carpets provide a lot of fun when tobogganing and sliding. And the dedicated ski schools touchingly take care of the budding skiers – so that they will soon be able to tackle even the steeper slopes.
Cross-country skiers glide far and wide on the sunniest trails between Teichalm and Sommeralm, generally with a view far across the mountain pastures. The many opportunities to stop for refreshments en route make cross-country skiing into the ultimate pleasure!

Winter fairytale
When the sun shines over snow-covered mountain pastures, glittering snow and streams with frozen banks, the Almenland Nature Park reveals a very special charm! A leisurely walk in the sun, high above the sea of mist, will brighten up your mood – especially if you are properly warmed up afterwards with mulled wine, punch and Kaiserschmarren (a shredded pancake traditionally served with a plum compote).
You can really “thaw” in a mountain flower sauna, in the hay steam bath or in the salt grotto in our wellness facilities. Nestled in woollen blankets, you can enjoy a sweeping view, far away from your everyday life. Nothing could be more beautiful than cold winter days!
Enjoy the winter landscape in a more romantic way with a ride in a horse-drawn sleigh or with a snowshoe walk at full moon.
