9am – a crew of riders, consisting of the snowboarders Jacco Bos, Jure Gradic, Uros Tacer and Gregor Rihtarsic as well as the freeskiers Max Heider, Tim Van Dyck and Phil Schneider, gathers at the Chill Area in the Snowpark Gastein. For one month and a half, its sun chairs and picnic tables have been waiting next to the park to provide the right vibes for the coming spring sessions. But the crew’s statement is first work, then pleasure, and so they directly head to the park lift, followed by photographer Christian Riefenberg and filmer Kilian Floch.
The focus of the shooting was quickly found: “It was very sunny, but frequently we got hit by some heavy gusting winds, that’s why we changed from the kicker line to the rail line,” photographer Christian explains. And that’s where they decided to stick around a bit longer: “We could have stayed there in the end section for the entire day. It was the true highlight for me as photographer, as there are so many good spots to capture the action. And as the features are aligned next to each other, you don’t have to change your position while shooting. But it wasn’t only me, everyone in the crew wanted to stay there the whole day – and I wanted to start ripping the section with them.” Also freeskier Tim Van Dyck was really stoked about the rails: “My favorite feature was definitely the entire rail section in front of the Chill Area. There are so many creative jibs, but also standard rails, which any park should have – but sadly this is rarely the case! Moreover, the rails and boxes are aligned in a perfect way, so you get as many hits as possible during one run.”
A total number of seven different rails are waiting for each passionate jibber, from the 5m flat rail to the 7m rainbow. “Especially the rainbow is just so much fun”, Tim says. And the other riders agree: “The rainbow is just so good to hit, easy to hike and generally, rainbows are always fun,” snowboarder Jacco Bos adds. “One trick that I did really well, happened also on the rainbow: the Cab 270 to Blunt Slide to Regular. The trick is very technical and with many twisty maneuvers.”
But there weren’t only good tricks, but also good vibes: “I already knew most of the riders beforehand and also the filmer and photographer. It’s just so much more fun when you can shred with friends,” Jacco says. “You realize instantly when the riders know each other – riding together with friends, you are constantly pushing each other”, photographer Christian Riefenberg adds. Also Tim is happy about the day in the park: “I generally like taking part in shootings. Everybody is in a good mood and you get to know new people and have the chance to produce good footage. And so it’s just a great feeling when you watch the final edit in the end and you know you are part of it.”
And of course we don’t want to keep such great edits secret. Check out the freeski and snowboard edit and browse through the freeski and snowboard gallery. All further info and news from the Snowpark Gastein can be found on the park website as well as on the Facebook page.
