Wood carving School

The Wood Carving School, also know as School for Wood Sculpture, is the only school of its kind in Switzerland. It was founded as the "Brienz Wood Carving School" in 1884 and has been run by canton Bern since 1928. In 1900, 650 carvers were active in and around Brienz. Twenty-four trainee wood sculptors attend the school today. The school is the backbone of wood sculpture in Switzerland and offers a comprehensive course encompassing both basic training and advanced training leading to a master's diploma.
